Self Assessment

The past few months of taking English 1100 was an interesting journey. Doing a Literacy Laguange Narrative about how I speak and write and why, to doing a Discovery essay about going eco-friendly, to then finally an oral presentation about the same topic I did for the discovery essay. Even a presentation on the Discovery essay showed my point of view on the earth and going eco-friendly. Over the past few months, I have learned how to write more effectively to make my stories told to stand out more and stronger, how to cite my source the correct way to avoid any issues for copyright. With both the Literacy Laguange Narrative and the Discovery Essay, I was able to voice out the back story to my English skill, and how I feel about our earth. The Oral presentation helped a lot with speaking as I am a person who stutters, doing oral presentations I feel helps me speak and choose the right words as I’m not reading word for word. If I was to compare essays from the summer to the end of this semester I would say I have improved a lot, but there is always more room to improve, just like in art, the line never stops, unless it ends up at the edge of the canvas.

I would one of the goals that I was hoping to get out of this class for this semester was to better my skill in writing. I feel like I have reached that goal, just having some little errors but what writer doesn’t. My choice of words, I feel that still need improvement as I sometimes do repeat some words and I just need to fix that within my writing to make it stronger. Writing is something I have always loved, and more so when I did it about my artwork, and comparing these two things help me write more as it’s a passion of mine. Every time I write, I write like how I would speak and that is another goal I set for myself for the years upcoming. Although to many speaking and writing should be “professional”, to me I find it unique as just like art, it shows the person who is viewing/reading what type of person made this work. In the end, this is something I wanna work on for the future to come. With my Literacy Langauge Narrative Essay, I was able to write how I speak and show many who Eduardo is behind the ink on the paper. My Discovery Essay was another, but where I was able to voice my feelings professionally in a way to grab attention for not only a younger audience but adults as well, something I learned to do during this essay. I then brought my Discovery Essay to life through an oral presentation talking about the dangers of plastics and how we could change them. I feel like I have learned a lot in just a few months, English is something I always liked doing as it helps me voice who I am as a person.

About five months ago if you would’ve told me to write an essay or to make a page full of citations I would be confusing to the fullest because citing is the name of the book and page. Now I give the author, name of the book, the page it’s on, and a little description of the book and pick and choose my word choices to make my essay stronger. Writing has always been one of my easiest subjects, something I loved doing, and I am glad I was able to learn more during these past five months.
